Well, I guess that makes a strong argument for having an open cut immediately addressed. Perhaps the scar above your eye would be less visible if you did. Even so, I also sustained an open cut, mine was about an inch long (although not on my forehead). I went to the hospital, and several stitches were used to fully close the area. That was many years ago, but I still have a scar because of the injury. The mark has somewhat faded with time, but it is still visibly thick.

In short? You just never know.

I think you are correct, stitches might have prevented a scar. I was just so tired that night, so I didn't feel like getting myself out of the house. I sometimes regret that decision. Granted, the scar is only slightly visible, but I think I would rather it be invisible. [br][br]The moral of the story? Do not let sleepiness stop you from doing what you know you should. Trying to cover the scar is one more thing I now have to do in the morning.

I think that most likely, yes, you would have less of a scar if you got stiches, but it also depends on how good the stiches are and whether you're prone to scarring. Some doctors are experts at using little tiny stitches that help the wound heal perfectly.I've been told before that for face injuries you should request a plastic surgeon do the stiches, but when I asked a doctor about it once he said that a lot of emergency room physicians are just as good. He did say you might consider asking the nurse which of the doctors on call he or she'd want to do the stiches if it were him or her.[br][br]On the other hand, I have a rather large, thick scar on my knee from a wound that was only about an inch or two long that I got way back in 1st grade. Stiches don't always prevent scars.

One night while I was sound asleep, I was abruptly awakened by a noise. I quickly jumped up, and as I did, I smacked my forehead against the nightstand. Blood was gushing everywhere, and an open cut was visible above my left eyebrow. I contemplated going to the emergency room for stitches, but I was too tired, so I cleaned the area and fell back asleep. Now I have a slight scar, but it is coverable with makeup. Would stitches have completely prevented this mark?
