I get chapped lips, hands, and feet, especially when it is cold. My hands and lips bother me the most because people can see the problem.

What works for me? A non-hydrogenated, all vegetable organic shortening called Spectrum. It smells better than regular shortening and works great for baking, as well. It is gluten free, vegan, kosher, and has no trans fat. The only ingredient? Mechanically pressed organic palm oil.

Has anyone else ever tried this? If so, did you like it?

I tend to get chapped lips in the winter months, as well. In addition, my hands become terribly chapped. When I was younger, I always had smooth lips and hands no matter what the season. Now they crack and peel.[br] [br]For my lips, I sometimes apply lactic acid. I know it might sound as if they should become more irritated, but they actually recover at some level. For my hands, I apply organic palm oil. The consistency is somewhat like Crisco, only it is a more natural oil. Thankfully, this combination helps me immensely!

[p]I get terrible chapped lips. I never realized you weren't suposed to lick them; I do that all throughout the winter. [/p][p]I use Burts Bees mostly, not just on my lips but also on the skin right around my lips. It works pretty well. My biggest issue is actually that when they get chapped, I start absentmindedly chewing on them and pulling little bits off with my teeth (I know--it's a horribly disgusing habit, but one I haven't been able to break myself of for years). Burts Bees, or even lipstick, helps with this because I notice the taste and realize what I'm doing, which then gets me to stop. [/p]

[p]"Most of all, avoid licking your lips!" Well, I do this all the time in the winter, in particular when I do not have any lip balm handy. I think it is a rather natural reaction, like rubbing your skin when it feels itchy.[/p][p]To answer your question, I use lip balm and regular moisturizing lotion.[/p][p][/img][/p][p]image source:[/p][p] [/p]

[p]Have you ever noticed that during winter months when chilly wind blow, your lips tend to become chapped more often? Have you ever caught yourself licking your lips and eventually developing what my mother affectionately termed "clown mouth", where the skin surrounding your lips also becomes red and chapped?[/p][p]As a child I had constant "clown mouth" and seemingly never-ending chapped lips, dryness and cracking of the skin on my lips and the skin surrounding my mouth. As I got older, this problem lead to acne around my mouth and more embarassing skin conditions. [/p][p]This type of chapping can be a result of a variety of factors, many of which are more prevalent during the cold winter months. Although chapped lips can be caused by the elements, dehydration, the use of harsh chemicals and some medications, dehydration and sun exposure can cause of worsen chapped skin. [/p][p]To combat this condition, use a sunscreen on your face and lips (in the form of a protective lip balm) whenever you are exposed to the sun, stay adequately hydrated, and treat chapped lips with products containing beeswax or Vaseline.[/p][p]Most of all, avoid licking your lips![/p][p]How do you deal with your chapped lips? Got any tips?[/p][br][ul][/ul][ul][/ul]
