Flares in disease activity can be managed through different treatment options. Sun exposure should be monitored along with the use of sunscreens and clothing to cover the extremities.
Stopping medications abruptly can also lead to flares in activity and should be avoided when possible. Patients with SLE are at increased risk of infections, particularly when taking immunosuppressive medications. Therefore, report and monitor any unexpected fever.
