Sun damage is generally diagnosed through visual exams and biopsies. Treatment for sun damage includes over the counter and prescription medication as well as medical procedures. Tretinoin is a medication available in both cream and gel form. This treatment is used to reverse sun damage, smooth the skin, and if used for a long period of time, visibly reduce fine lines and wrinkles. Tazarotene is another treatment used to reverse chronic sun damage.
In addition, there are medical procedures to treat sun damage including chemical peels, laser surgery, skin fillers and botox.
