Contracture Scars

Clinical Overview

Contracture scars are a potential consequence of burn injury. When a large area of skin is damaged or lost, the normal elastic connective tissues are replaced by inelastic fibrous scar tissue. This can result in a permanent tightening of the skin. A contracture scar is a serious complication of a burn. The affected area may not be able to move normally, and a contracture scar can also affect muscles and nerves.
